THE NUIT BLANCHE MALAGA 2025

What is the famous White Night (Nuit Blanche)? It’s an event that brings together many art and cultural promoters to support numerous artists, poets, singers, and public activities — from street art to concerts — running throughout the day and culminating in an explosion of creativity at night. You know the expression “white night”? That’s where the idea comes from to recall a vibrant city full of energy for celebrating a full artistic night!

P.S. A fun historical fact: the first “White Night” was proposed in Paris in 2002, with the idea of opening museums, cultural centres, and public spaces outside regular

Each White Night focuses on a theme which leads its events, in this case, the artist Rafael Pérez Estrada. He was a writer and poet from Málaga known for his imaginative and original style, blending poetry and visual elements such as drawing. Throughout his career, he published numerous books and became a key figure in contemporary Spanish literature, especially in experimental poetry.

We met in the afternoon to prepare the space and materials for the Graffiti and Urban Art performance. Little by little, each of us began working on our artwork... So that I ended up talking with so many different people from all over the world (Hong Kong, Brisbane, and many more!). And maybe that’s the most beautiful and inspiring part of creating Live Art!

I was fully immersed in my creative process when, among all these people, some children came closer. And thinking about it, in their shoes, I would have been amazed to start painting too! I mean, if you're curious, you like it, and you want to play... the first thing a child would do is get their hands dirty! So, I remembered that I had with me an artist's book that was perfect for the occasion, and I thought it would be fun to share it.

The interesting thing is that Rafael Pérez Estrada’s work comes from playing, and that’s why it’s so creative and fantastic. Perhaps this freshness of the creative process somehow inspired me to get involved and sit down with the children to paint.

In the following lines, I'll present you the masterpiece I created for the Nuit Blance original Art SyamHope:

In the foreground, a feather transforms into his portrait — in this way I represent the artist not only in his physical appearance but, above all, in his deepest essence. In the background, I stylised a representation of his artworks, including references to his female portraits, star elements (often six-pointed), angels, and one of his most iconic creations: a dove-hand. Interestingly, many of Estrada's female portraits are often connected by recurring features, such as the side profile and fashionable hats. And while Rafael Pérez Estrada isn’t particularly defined by a strong painting technique, what truly stands out is the creativity and imagination of his visual and poetic work.

In primo piano troviamo una piuma che si trasforma nel suo ritratto, un modo di rappresentare l’artista non solo nel suo aspetto fisico ma anche e soprattutto nella sua essenza più profonda. Per lo sfondo, ho scelto invece una rappresentazione stilizzata delle sue opere d’arte, con una citazione dei ritratti femminili, dell’elemento delle stelle, spesso a sei punte, degli angeli e di una delle sue creazioni più celebri: una colomba-mano. È curioso che in Rafael Pérez Estrada troviamo moltissimi ritratti femminili, uniti da alcuni elementi che si ripetono, come per esempio il profilo laterale e cappelli di moda. E, se la tecnica pittorica no distingue specialmente Rafael Pérez Estrada, sicuramente è notevole la creatività e la fantasia delle sue opere, visive e poetiche.

There is no art without freedom, and when the deeper creative self comes to the light, we get emotional with art: you're walking and suddenly, besides your indifference… You stop!

It is precisely from this challenge and the need to talk about freedom that this syamhope artwork is born—an artwork that explores and reflects the challenges and hopes of modern society.

Statements, context, and inspiration behind the artwork about Freedom

As an artist and a woman, I have found myself delving into the connection between creativity and autonomy in today’s society, which is torn between old frameworks, emancipation, and the search for a new social balance. So, by challenging conventions, I created this poem and artwork, known as “Visual Poetry”. I was reflecting on how often we take our freedom for granted: something as simple as being able to listen to and play the music we want, speak freely, dress how we like. I was also thinking about how heavy criticism can feel when we choose to break the mold. About how others sometimes impose limits on us that don’t belong to us.

So, how can we find the answer to the need for freedom? We can always make a choice, and that is the greatest freedom we have. Despite this, we often don’t change due to our laziness or fear; infact, deep down, a golden cage is easier and more beautiful than a constant struggle — but how far can you go on conforming?

With this artwork, I invite reflection; I turn these habits, desires, and needs upside down — these ripples in the everyday conviction of being free.

You know, it could be the passion for art, traveling, or why not, the magic of internet that makes you discover the world and its people!

Anyway, this time it's my turn to take the chance and get to know you... So, Who would you like to be?

Yes, I know, normally people ask you who you are. Not this time, it's different. This time I'd really like to know who you would like to be. In fact, somehow you can already see who you are - and you might even complain about it (taxes, school, exams etc. etc. etc.). I mean you already know it somehow.

E invece “chi vorresti essere” è una domanda potentissima che non fa mai nessuno.

They would ask it when you're a child and you'd think about becoming a pirate! -Yes, I'd 100% believe it!- but then you grow up and you aren't a pirate and you don't even think about it anymore. In the end, you already have "grown-up", better, something you already are.

So, now it's your turn to answer.

John Pengo, author of the noir comic SEE YOU IN DOWNTOWN, asked me. He always throws you these unexpected lessons, among laughs and zombies, to make the day better.

We were thinking about how to organize the workshop in Italy with the EDERA Associations and their guys; we wouldn't like the typical name round. So, here comes John Pengo: why don't we ask them who they would like to be instead?

When I say Strong Question, I mean that this question makes you reflect. It makes you look at yourself in the mirror, and take a moment to think about who you are now, but especially where would you like to be.

Who would you like to be? It's like when you want to travel then you ask yourself where you want to go.

Asking yourself who would you like to be, asking questions, is the first step to start something, go somewhere or keep your way.

In the meantime, our paths crossed in Sossano, North Italy. In fact, here we left our Italian-comic SEE YOU IN DOWNTOWN First Edition.

We made a Creative Writing and Drawing Lab with the local guys: we talked about self-expression and growing our talents; above all, we discovered that creating a story is not hard at all! In the end, you just need to ask questions!

La prima Fiera Andalusa dell’Arte e della Cultura

Nel mese di aprile si è svolta FADAC: la prima Feria di Arte e Cultura in Andalusia. Questa fiera ha l’obiettivo di promuovere e fomentare l’arte e le iniziative culturali in Andalusia, Spagna. La prima edizione di FADAC è stata un successo e ha tenuto luogo quest’anno a Siviglia, nel Palazzo delle Esposizioni e dei Congressi (FIBES).

L’evento è aperto a tutti i professionisti dell’arte (artisti, gallerie d’arte, commerci…) ed offre anche uno spazio scenico perfetto per presentazioni ed eventi. Infatti, come previsto dal programma FADAC, ci sono stati numerosi interventi da parte di enti pubblici e privati, tra associazioni, aziende ed università.

In questo senso, è stato piuttosto interessante vedere riuniti tanti professionisti affini, soprattutto perché questo ci ricorda che l’arte ci circonda in molti modi, anche fuori dalla classica tela.

Tra gli enti che hanno partecipato alla Fiera di FADAC, spicca sicuramente l’Associazione La Casa Azul che coglie l’occasione per concludere il programma “¡Mamá, quiero ser artista!” organizzando il Primo Incontro Andaluso di Giovani Artisti e Imprendimento Culturale. Questo programma permette di approfondire la condizione dell’artista come figura professionale e i diritti di cui gode nell’ambito del lavoro. Al tempo stesso favorisce il dialogo e la collaborazione tra artisti e professionisti del settore, creando un senso di comunità.

In questo senso, FADAC si è presentata come l’opportunità perfetta per realizzare l’idea di un progetto comune a tutti i partecipanti del programma e concretizzare quanto imparato durante gli incontri formativi.

Nel mio caso, ho avuto un ruolo che si è diviso in due parti diverse: da un lato come Syamhope, artista visuale e, dall’altro, come organizzatrice responsabile del controllo qualità dello stand dell’Associazione La Casa Azul, lavorando insieme ai giovani professionisti del programma “¡Mamá, quiero ser artista!”.

Gli obiettivi per cui mi ero proposta di partecipare nel progetto sono rivolti alla crescita personale, sia a livello educativo, sia professionale.

Nello specifico, come artista e professionista Syamhope, ho proposto il progetto: “Arte in movimento: dalle persone alla carta”, che si è svolto nel concreto realizzando una performance di improvvisazione di disegno ispirata ai concerti del giorno Domenica 16 Aprile 2023, con la creazione di un totale di dieci opere realizzate durante le prove e lo spettacolo finale.

Inoltre, come organizzatrice, ho contribuito alla gestione e al controllo qualità dello stand e della sua presentazione visuale per quanto riguarda la parte dedicata all’esposizione di opere d’arte (appoggio nel ricevimento e classificazione di opere d’arte, imballaggio, design dell’esposizione, contatto con gli artisti…) assistendo anche il team di produzione audiovisuale nella creazione del materiale necessario.

In questa fase è stato molto importante tenere conto delle diverse esigenze insieme a una limitazione di tempo e una tensione naturale del gruppo. Soprattutto, si è rivelato indispensabile lavorare molto sulla comunicazione and collaborazione tra di noi. Infatti, grazie a questi due elementi è stato possibile approfittare della eterogeneità del gruppo e usarla a nostro vantaggio come opportunità di arricchimento.

Partecipare ed essere parte di un’esperienza così immersiva è stata sicuramente una grande lezione sotto diversi punti di vista. Per prima cosa, è emozionante vedere come un gruppo di sconosciuti può arrivare a conoscersi e collaborare fino a creare una squadra e difendere il proprio lavoro in un evento importante come quello di FADAC. un Participar y formar parte de una experiencia tan inmersiva es seguramente un aprendizaje muy grande bajo diferentes aspectos. In secondo luogo, a livello personale, a parte la crescita personale, è una soddisfazione poter esprimere ognuno i propri talenti e farli fruttare per raggiungere un obiettivo comune. Un altro punto positivo è la possibilità di poter partecipare anche alle attività proposte dagli altri membri del gruppo: in questo modo è possibile capire meglio la loro professione attraverso un contatto diretto e una partecipazione attiva interessata, oltre a favorire un prospettiva di apprendimento circolare dove ognuno possa imparare dagli altri e allo stesso tempo insegnare qualcosa.

Per concludere, questi tipi di progetti culturali permetto di creare una rete all’interno della comunità di professionisti del settore culturale; permetto anche di creare un’azione più decisa per promuovere l’arte e la cultura grazie a progetti concreti ed inclusivi che, non solo tutelino la diversità, ma anche che la trasformino in ricchezza. Questa esperienza ci insegna anche ad affrontare i nostri limiti e limiti esterni che non dipendono da noi: la pressione, l’incertezza, l’impegno con gli altri, ci spingono fuori dalla nostra zona di comfort. Questa tensione che si crea naturalmente quando ci troviamo in una situazione diversa dalla nostra normalità può bloccarci o può darci una spinta. Infatti, se ben gestita e canalizzata, questa tensione si può sfruttare per premere sul lavoro di squadra e la creazione di un tessuto sociale che superi le differenze, valorizzandole, e che inoltre porti a un cambiamento, per quanto piccolo, anche di miglioramento sociale.
